The Board of Directors in a community are elected by fellow homeowners or appointed by the Declarant if the community is still under Declarant Control.
Homeowners who serve on the Board are volunteers and do not receive a paycheck, stipend, or kickback.
When the Board is elected, it is their duty to act in the best interest of the Association.
They are given a Code of Ethics agreement that provides guidelines of how a Board Member should act and to disclose any situation that could be deemed unethical.
Anyone wishing to join the Board of Directors should come with an open mind and a willingness to work alongside others to better the community. Homeowners with a mind set on fixing just that one issue or being a "lone wolf" will usually cause discord among the Board which will adversely affect the HOA.
